Exhibition open every day until 1 November 2026 · 11:00-18:00
Ultramarine is my investigation into the submarine and all the awesomeness it evokes: human technology and the mystery of those underwater spaceships. The submarine drives the work, both visually and conceptually. It is a steel tube with a nuclear reactor. It disappears underwater for months, then surfaces again as if nothing had happened. It is impressive, strange and dark.
After five years of working with this theme, I am bringing most of my works about submarines together for the first time: sculptures, drawings and installations, including the submarine bunker installation shown in Terneuzen in summer 2026. Until now, I have made each work on its own. Here, I want to see what happens when they stand side by side and face each other in one space. I also want to see how that world reaches the viewer. BLANCO is where the worldbuilding of Ultramarine takes full shape.
Not every work shows a submarine. Some show only the landscapes, bunkers and spaces that belong to this world. Together, they build a world around the submarine: a place that exists partly above and partly below the surface, and that is revealed piece by piece.
I invite you to visit Ultramarine at BLANCO, Ghent.
